      Why them?

I was in love with a wonderful man. He was my high school sweetheart. We were planning to get married a couple of years after High School. It was the most wonderful relationship I could have ever dreamed of!

Three days before Senior Prom, he was driving 2 other friends home after school. It was a rainy day and the roads were slick. He kissed me goodbye in the school parking lot and promised to call me when he got home. I never received that phone call. The three of them were killed instantly in a terrible car accident. It stayed on the news for months. He was 17yrs old. Three days before prom and 2 months away from graduation. He was an honor roll student and loved by many. It feels like a senseless death. Why did he have to go?

Ten months later to the exact day, my best friend, my sister, was killed by a drunk driver. She was brain dead for 18 hours before we finally let her go. That was the hardest day of my life. My 2 children will never know their aunt, nor will I ever see my best friend again. I still haven't dealt with her death, almost 9 yrs ago, but I have learned to wear my seatbelt at all times. She would still be here if she had hers on.

I've learned from both of their deaths, while seeming senseless and very tragic, that you have to let your loved ones know how much they mean to you and spend each day telling them. Live each moment to the fullest with no regrets. I'm still learning to live my life that way, but treasure every moment with those you love. You never know when they may not be around to tell them how much you care.
